Terms of Use
Effective September 6, 2026
The short version: be decent to other students. There is no tolerance for harassment, hate speech, threats or sexual content — post it and your account goes. Anyone can report a message or block a user from inside the app, and reports are reviewed by a person. Everything you post is yours; you are responsible for it.
These terms cover JJAY Campus Companion (“the app”), an independent student project. By creating an account you agree to them. If you don’t, don’t create one — browsing the app doesn’t require an account.
Who can sign up
Accounts require a CUNY email address at @login.cuny.edu,
@jjay.cuny.edu, or @stu-mail.jjay.cuny.edu. You must be at least 13
years old. One account per person, and the account is yours alone — don’t share it or sign in
as anyone else.
Community guidelines
These apply to everything you post: chat messages, replies, reactions, GIFs, display names, and professor reviews. There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behavior. Specifically, do not post:
- Harassment, bullying, or targeting a specific person.
- Hate speech, or slurs and imagery attacking people for who they are.
- Threats of violence, or anything encouraging self-harm.
- Sexual content, or anything sexualizing a minor.
- Someone else’s private information — address, phone number, schedule, photos.
- Spam, scams, or advertising.
- Impersonating another student, a professor, or college staff.
- Anything illegal, or content you don’t have the right to post.
Professor reviews get one extra rule: write about the class and the teaching. Reviews are not a place for personal attacks or claims about a professor’s private life.
How this is enforced
- Automatic screening. Messages and display names are screened before they post. Content that clearly breaks these rules is blocked outright.
- Reporting. Press and hold any message, or use the report control on a review, to report it. Reports are reviewed by a person within 24 hours.
- Blocking. You can block any user from the app. You stop seeing their messages immediately, and they can’t see yours.
- Consequences. Content that breaks these rules is removed. Repeat violations mute your account temporarily. Serious violations — threats, sexual content involving minors, sustained harassment — end the account permanently, without warning.
We may remove content or suspend an account at any time to keep the app safe, and we may report unlawful content to the appropriate authorities.
Your content
What you post stays yours. By posting it you give us permission to store and display it inside the app so other users can see it — nothing more. We don’t sell it, license it to anyone, or use it to train anything. Delete your account and it all goes with it; see the Privacy policy.
You’re responsible for what you post. Other users’ posts are theirs, not ours — we moderate them, but we don’t endorse them, and professor reviews are individual student opinions.
The app is provided as is
This is a student project offered free, with no warranty of any kind. Class times, events, facility hours and professor data are gathered from public sources and can be wrong or out of date — check with the college before relying on any of it. To the extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for losses arising from your use of the app.
Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time from the Profile tab, and it takes everything with it. We can suspend or end an account that breaks these rules.
Changes
If these terms change, the new version is posted here with a new effective date. Continuing to use the app after that means you accept the change.
